Ceramics

We are mainly drawn to ancient European ceramics

Welcome to our collection of European ceramics. You will find a selection of our large stock in the images below.
We find ourselves drawn to ceramics as opposed to porcelain because we like the hefty look and feel of clay and go for the varied surface structure produced by runny glazes.

We have started, some time ago, to carry antique Delft tiles of the 18th and 19th century. They have proved to be very popular so we have decided to provide some general information here. Thankfully, Dutch minds are orderly and have been already in the 18th century. That means that the tiles are always the same size, namely 13 cm x 13 cm (without grouching).

Because there are no factories for 18th century tiles they come from old houses, i.e. we have painstakingly collected different patterns over the years in order to offer whole square meters.

If you are interested in any of the tile patterns below please enquire as to the numbers available (the numbers change with sales and purchases).

Image 1: this shows the front room of our gallery dominated by a pair of heraldic lions from Italy. They are rare 17.century pieces. They have a silly grin on their faces turning these grim sentinels into loveable creatures Image 2: We love Delft! The fresh blue and white patterns and traditional shapes match most woods and furniture styles Image 3: If I had a country house kitchen, this combination of dresser and plates would be a must have!
